In January 24 and after an open call, I was asked by Allie Hatch from Objects and Sounds to be part of a special project as a sound artist.
Today, I’m happy to promote the release of Sounds On Grief compilation and book. I have a track in the playlist alongside talented artists.
Sounds On Grief is a multidisciplinary project that offers a fresh lens on the processes and reflections of grief.
This project was really special for me and was kind of hard to achieve as it was really emotional: “After the loss of my father during summer some years ago, I travelled to the family beach house and went for a walk. I clearly remembered this moment... I was on top of the dunes, contemplating the ocean and crying. I wanted to shoot but suddenly the calmness came and a lot of pictures went into my head... like bad Vhs images but still... good memories, smell, noises. After some time there, I was still feeling sad and melancholic but in a way this was the day where I started my real grief and decided to cherish every small memory of my father.
Watching the sea...crying...remembering...missing you. Tiny tears.”
PROCESS NOTES
The sound design process was very organic and clear for me.
I sat at my Yamaha CP25 for a while and decided to record a live take of what I was doodling.
I wanted to add some field recording of walking sand and ocean waves but it was too first degree to me. So I tried to record some noises from objects I had in the studio and mix these with the synth sounds. Everything was recorded through the mic of a Wingie and looped via a 4MS DLD module then recorded directly on my Ipad with AUM and a bunch of FX & EQ. Less is more.
I can remember this particular night when the recording happened. It was a relieving moment not only because the track was coming together but also because I found a nice way to produce something fresh sound wise (at least for me). This limited setup was creative enough and it was later the rig used for my upcoming album Etudes de Boucles vol2 (due mid November) and hopefully live shows to come.
So I hope you will enjoy the compilation and will find some peace in your own depths of grief if needed.

thank you for opening up and sharing such a personal story. Such a beautiful profound memory...it’s truly inspiring to see how you've transformed them into music. Being able to channel such profound memories into sound is a rare and powerful gift—something many would wish they could do.
